Silken Sky Studio is a small but proud two-person company.
We have been doing a variety of creative things for most of
our lives. Following the gift of our children our creative
work has increased and assumed focus in the making of toys
and other things they enjoy. We enjoy nature and use natural
materials in our products.
Toys enable both play and learning. Making toys by hand for a child you love
is one of the most satisfying things we know. Enabling lots
of people to share this joy is the goal we have set ourselves
at Silken Sky Studio.
We use natural products in our kits. The felt is luxurious,
soft, and 100% wool. Heads and hands are wood. The hair and
stuffing are 100% wool. The root children are stuffed with
wool and lentils. Glass beads and cotton embroidery floss
embellish some of the flower children. The dolls are weighted
so they will stand firmly without support. We believe natural
materials are superior to plastics. Wool stuffing is wonderful
to work with and holds up well over time. Wool felt is a stronger
material than acrylic or polyester, and will also hold up
better to play. And wait until you feel how wonderfully soft
it is! Children are attuned to the way things feel, and providing
them with natural toys introduces them to an aesthetic that
will feed their soul. The kits you complete will likely become
family heirlooms, but if your dog chews one and it can't be
salvaged, it will biodegrade naturally, unlike plastic materials.
